Kathmandu, Oct 12 — The Government of Nepal has officially announced the boundaries of the newly established Chhayanath National Park, the country’s youngest national park, located in Mugu district.

The Cabinet meeting held on August 29 (Bhadra 13, 2082 BS) decided to declare Chhayanath National Park and its buffer zone. Following that decision, the Ministry of Forests and Environment has formally published the park’s perimeter details.

According to the ministry, the national park covers an area of 843 square kilometers, making it Nepal’s newest protected area.

Boundaries of the Park

East: From the summit of Kanjiruwa Himal northward to the mountain ridges, covering the confluence of Namlan River and Khabula Khola, Marum Danda, Yangla Lake, Yalakan, Yala Bhanjyang, and Palachung Hamda Himal, extending up to the Nepal–China international border.

West: From Dabhasalla Danda northward to Namlang Khola, west to Belung Khola, encompassing the ridges of Show Chuli, Kuldam Danda, Nagpi Danda, Chhyargola Bhanjyang, and Chimimaru Danda up to the international border with China.

North: From the summit of Kanti Himal along the Nepal–China border, eastward through Chandi and Palchunhumga Himal up to the boundary between Mugu and Dolpa districts.

South: From Dabhasalla Danda southward along the Jumla–Mugu district border, through Kandechuli and the peak of Patarasi Himal, extending to the summit of Kanjiruwa Himal.

Buffer Zone

The buffer zone of the park spans 177 square kilometers.

On the eastern side, it extends from the peak of Dabhasalla Danda to the confluence of Namlang and Belung Khola, passing through the summit of Chhayanath Thakurji Danda, Show Chuli, Kuldam Danda, Nagpi Danda, and Chhyaranggom Bhanjyang.

On the western side, it stretches from the top of Nadi Kandh Lake northward across Kan Khola and Gara Lapcha Danda, encompassing Tihar Bagar and reaching up to Siranchaur through the Mugu Karnali corridor.

To the north, it extends from Siranchaur through Chhyam Khola to Chhyamgola Bhanjyang, while to the south, it runs from Nadi Kandh Lake along the Mugu–Jumla boundary via Kankre Kandh Lake to Dabhasalla Danda.

Shey Phoksundo National Park Boundary Revised

In the same Cabinet meeting, the government also decided to revise and re-demarcate the boundaries and buffer zone of Shey Phoksundo National Park. The Ministry of Forests and Environment has now published the updated boundaries for Shey Phoksundo as well.
