October 5, Kathmandu — According to meteorologists, there is still a chance of rainfall in Nepal due to the moist air (monsoon wind) coming from the Bay of Bengal.

However, the system that causes heavy rain in the Kathmandu Valley has become weaker and has now moved toward the Koshi Province.

Meteorologists from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said that the risk of heavy rain in Kathmandu has reduced, while the system has shifted to the Koshi region. Senior meteorologist Min Kumar Aryal told, “The weather system over Kathmandu Valley and Bagmati Province has weakened, so there is no longer a high risk of heavy rainfall.”

He added that although some rain clouds are still seen over the Madhesh Province, the chance of very heavy rain like yesterday is low.

At present, the rainfall system is active in the Koshi Province. Because of this, heavy to very heavy rain has occurred in many areas from Panchthar, Ilam, and Jhapa to Chatar in the Tarai region. There may still be heavy rain in some areas today, but it is expected to weaken from the afternoon.

“In today’s case, there is a chance of isolated heavy rain in the Tarai areas of Koshi Province, especially from Ilam onwards,” Aryal said. “But it will gradually weaken from the afternoon.”

In the past 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rainfall has occurred in many parts of Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati Provinces. The highest rainfall was recorded at Maheshpur Center in Rautahat, with 351 millimeters.
